Rising Sea Level: National Assembly, Dhaka, Bangladesh, 2007
Bangladesh is among the most vulnerable countries in the world to sea level rise, which is causing severe erosion, floods and increased salinization of water. According to Dr Atiq Rahman, executive director at the Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies these changes are already underway: "Patterns of rainfall and flooding have changed in the past few years. Severe floods used to come once every 20 years, but now occur every five to seven."
The Bangladesh National Assembly building is aptly surrounded by water showing how deeply the countryÕs proximity to water is embedded within the national consciousness.
